| CRIMINAL BACKGROUND RECORDS CHECK REQUIRED FOR RESIDENT INSURANCE LICENSURE |

Ohio Revised Code 3905.05 requires all individuals applying for a resident insurance license issued by the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) to submit fingerprints for a criminal records check completed by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI). BCI must send the results of the criminal records check directly to ODI. Results not received directly by BCI will not be accepted.
To complete a background check, applicants must use WebCheck, a web-based fingerprinting technology that processes background checks electronically. By law, ODI cannot complete the processing of an applicant’s application until it receives the background check report from BCI.
Background Check Instructions:
- Request a BCI criminal records check
- Pay the background check fee directly to the WebCheck vendor
- Indicate the reason fingerprinting as: Required for Licensure/Permit, Insurance Lic. or ORC 3905.05
- If requested, list the agency code as: BQE445
- Request the background check results be sent to ODI:
- For ODI to receive an electronic result from BCI, request delivery option as:

| Ohio BCI charges the WebCheck vendor $22.00 for a BCI check. The WebCheck vendor providing the background check services may establish a reasonable fee for conducting the background check. WebCheck vendors listed below may not charge more than $42.00 (BCI check & service fee combined). |

Promissor
WebCheck is offered, as a convenience, at all Ohio Promissor test centers. Promissor’s WebCheck is only available immediately after the successful completion of an exam. Applicants may not return to a test center at a later time for WebCheck processing. |
